This video above helps explain Consent. We did not make this video but it has been shared in the Burning Man community for many years to explain Consent in simple terms.
Consent can be communicated in many ways. Love Burn nor anyone is not in a position to ultimately define consent in all circumstances.
Thou Shalt Always Get CONSENT
What is consent? Before any action that involves another person, there is a moment where consent is requested. Whether you are offering a cup or tea or a booty call, you must ask for and get consent before pouring that cup of tea, taking a picture or tapping that you know what.
NO MEANS NO
If you don’t know, you must assume the other party did not give consent. If they say no, it means no. If they say maybe, it means no. If they say nothing or stay quiet, it means no. If they are asleep, it means no. If they say yes and then change their mind, it means no. If they are too drunk or out of it to answer you in their clear mind, it means no.
Stay with me here, so when is a YES A YES?
If you ask for consent, and they say yes and mean it, then it is a yes. And you must get a yes every time. Never assume that because they wanted that cup of tea an hour ago, means they want another cup of tea now. Always ask first.
Thou Shalt Sign A WAIVER Accepting Responsibility for Thine Actions
Speaking of yeses. If you decide to participate in the Love Burn, you are giving us consent that you willingly will sign a long and detailed waiver written in relatively simple but extremely boring legalese.
What Happens If You Do Not Consent
If you decline or refuse to turn in a properly signed waiver, you waive your right to participate. In other words, you said no and no means no. If you do not consent, you cannot enter the event. Your ticket will not be refunded. See the section above about no refunds and transferring tickets.
If you choose to participate in Love Burn, you should accept and agree to follow the standards laid out in the Code of Conduct and Consent Agreement below.

File A Report:
Encountered an issue that you would like to report?
If you are at the event, the quickest course of action is to find a Ranger and report the situation immediately.
BASIC CODE OF CONDUCT (COC):
Participants are responsible for their own behavior.
Participants are strongly encouraged to report any incident involving abusive, intimidating, threatening or unsafe behavior manner to a Ranger or Event Producer, at the Ranger Headquarters, COC tent, or by emailing the event organizers at volunteers@theloveburn.com.
Physical hazards, including, but not limited to, unsafe art installations or fires, should be promptly reported to Rangers or anyone with an event radio.
Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied at all times by a parent or legal guardian at the event venue.
Participants must comply with the principle of Consent. Consent regarding another person’s body or property is reached when someone clearly agrees, gives permission, or says “Yes” to an activity or physical contact with another.
Participants must respect and stop an activity or physical contact with another if that person says “No.”
REMOVAL AT THE DISCRETION OF PRODUCTION:
Failure to respect others boundaries that are not of a physically aggressive or sexual nature.

A NOTE TO PARTICIPANTS OF LOVE BURN:
Love Burn is concerned and committed to the safety of the participants, volunteers and staff.
The national Burning Man community, of which we are a part, is taking steps to move towards a safer interactive and socializing culture.
By presenting standards based on the input of our participants and promoting a culture of affirmative consent; we hope to participate in a growing standard of communication, exchange of ideas and education to foster a safe and comfortable environment for all participants.
With this in mind, we propose that the Ten Principles add two Principles: Radical Accountability and Consent.
Principle Zero: Radical Accountability
Accountability means each and every participant is totally and completely accountable for their own actions.
This means that as a community we each individually strive to be self-moderating to the same high standard of behavior of respect and support for one another without personal bias.
In support of this goal we are, collectively and individually, committed to transparently providing the necessary resources to achieve that goal.
11th Principle: Consent!
Our community values the transformative experience of consensual touch, play, and interaction by hearing and honoring the informed consent (or denial thereof) of those we interact with. We believe that consent plays a vital part in our connectivity and community. Our vision is that all parties feel empowered to participate as they feel comfortable, by “opting in” from a place of enthusiasm and autonomy.
Enthusiastic Consent applies to more than just sexual encounters.
Touch: Just because you hugged someone yesterday doesn’t mean you can surprise them with a hug today. “Surprise contact” isn’t always wanted, even if it’s affectionate.
Kink: Consent for one thing isn’t consent for another. If I said you can spank me, that doesn’t give you permission to grope me.
Sex: Consent can be revoked once it’s been given.
Gifts: Disclose what is in your gifts, even if it’s just essential oils. Some people have sensitivities.
Foods: Disclose the ingredients, one person’s innocuous ingredient can be someone else’s allergy.
Photography: Ask before taking pictures. Remember consent to take a picture is NOT consent to post it on your blog.
Consent can be communicated in many ways. Love Burn is not in a position to ultimately define consent in all circumstances. If you choose to participate in Love Burn, you should accept and agree to follow the standards laid out in the Code of Conduct and Consent Agreement.
Just remember, consent is FRIES!

CONSENT
At an event like Love Burn much of the time the people around you will be new to you.
There is a constant blend of new friends and ideas from all over the world. Communication to the point of over-communication is key to avoiding conflict and trouble.
All participants should seek to continually give and receive consent. This consent is for any and all activities and ought to be clear. Hoping others understand you is not enough, be clear about what you are and are not consenting to. Failing to respect another participant’s boundaries may subject you to removal from the event.
If for any reason you cannot ask first, do not pursue that activity. This includes taking photos or videos from afar, dancing with new friends in loud spaces, giving food or drinks, hugging, etc.
Consent is a mind-set of respecting others that virtually applies to anything at all times while at Love Burn and in most, if not all, areas of life.
If you need help, please ASK for it immediately.
If at any point you need support for yourself or another participant, seek help from other participants, Rangers or other staff.
The Love Burn event strives to provide 24 hour resources to the participants during the event.
Should you at any point feel unsafe, witness unsafe or troubling behavior, or need support in resolving/reporting a conflict or consent violation, please find The Ranger Station, the COC Station at Gate, or the Producers with a radio for immediate emergency assistance.
